About Us

Statement of Faith
We commit ourselves wholeheartedly to God and accept fully the revelation, which He has given us in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments.  We also identify ourselves with the faith of the Christian church as it has been expressed throughout history and is experienced around the world.  We accept the Statement of Faith of the Association of Evangelicals in Africa (AEA) as an expression of the crucial aspects of the Christian faith.

The Evangelical University, formerly the Theological College of Central Africa – TCCA is the flagship of conservative evangelicalism in Zambia. It was the oldest interdenominational theological college.

The idea of interdenominational accredited theological training can be traced to the 1978 EFZ AGM.

The origin of the Evangelical University formerly the Theological College of Central Africa (TCCA) is rooted in the realisation for the need of quality contextual evangelical theological education in the rapidly growing Zambian Church.

In 1978, the Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ) members indicated a desire for an undergraduate level theological college.

In November 1980, the first Board of Governors met in Lusaka and established a constitution; EFZ approved the proposal in May 1981. In January 1982, Evangelical University formerly known as Theological College of Central Africa (TCCA) opened its doors with 14 post-secondary students and in the same year received application forms from the Accrediting Council for Theological Education in Africa (ACTEA).

On Saturday 28 May 1983, the college was officially opened by Member of Central Committee Mr. Alex Shapi. In May 1985, the college received an official visit by an ACTEA team and was granted accreditation (with notations) for its diploma and degree programmes in May 1986. TCCA was reaccredited by ACTEA in 1996 and 2007.

In 1988, TCCA received recognition from Zambia’s Ministry of Education for teacher training in Religious Education.

TCCA granted recognition as university with legal registration and accreditation by the Higher Education Authority of Zambia, established under the Higher Education Act No. 4 of 2013.

TCCA officially transitions to Evangelical University (EU).
